Dick Swanson did his first triathlon in 1995, the old Hamlin Beach Triathlon on Lake Ontario. From there he's been at pretty much any race in Western NY and the Finger Lakes - but also races like St. Anthony's in St. Petersburg, FL and the Tinman in Tupper Lake, NY.
His first Ironman was in 1999 at Ironman USA Lake Placid, followed by 6 more Ironman USA finishes from 2001 to 2006.
In 2003 Dick traveled to the US Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA to become a USAT Certified Coach (along with 6 time Ironman Triathlon World Champion Mark Allen). His coaching experience includes working with novice and advanced athletes individually, as well as working with large groups of athletes through the AARP Triumph Classic Triathlon series.
Dick began to develop his coaching philosophy at Ironman USA - noticing all the other "regular" people around him who just happen to be doing something "irregular" - an Ironman triathlon. His coaching mantra became "If I can do this, anyone can".
Not everyone needs to be an Ironman, but most people can use a helping hand one way or another. Feel free to reach out and schedule a time to talk.
